[ MAKE IT MANDATORY X KILLED WOMEN ]
The Unofficial Curriculum
The Idea
16–19-year-olds experience the highest rates of domestic abuse of any age group. Yet compulsory Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) can end at 16, leaving young people to learn about sex, consent and relationships from the darkest corners of the internet.
With a crucial Parliamentary vote approaching, Make It Mandatory and Killed Women challenged us to make this dangerous gap in education impossible to ignore.
So, after some pretty uncomfortable research, we created the textbook nobody should ever have to study.
Enter, The Unofficial Curriculum.
Inspired by the iconic CGP revision guides we all grew up with, we designed a mock textbook exposing the harmful content teenagers are consuming online, from the manosphere and violent pornography to misogyny and coercive control.
But unlike the textbooks we remember, these were lessons no teenager should be learning.
We took The Unofficial Curriculum to Parliament Square, putting it in the hands of MPs, survivors and campaigners to demonstrate why compulsory RSE must be extended to 18.
Because when education stops, the learning doesn’t.
